case study by Damsel & Sprout

The brief?

A shipping container village on the edge of Lake Burley Griffin, with amazing food, views and space – all we had to do was bring the people!

In March 2016, Damsel and Sprout were appointed by the Land Development Agency to encourage Canberrans to utilise the space.

Over our 6-month contract, we introduced family & market days, hosted the National Capital Rally, the Australian launch of Champions League 3×3 basketball, Canberra’s first One Day Block Party, as well as turning the space into a beach for an Australia Day Hottest 100 Beach Party!

The foot traffic through the gates increased from 200 people per weekend, to an average of 2000, with major events drawing between 5000 – 8000 people.

“I worked closely with Damsel and Sprout in 2016 when they were the successful tender for event management services for Westside Container Village as part of the City to the Lake project. Their professionalism, creative ideas and ability to work well with various stakeholders were critical to activating a challenging site and providing a destination for all ages. Their experience in creating and managing events was highly regarded which showed in their work with the site. I would recommend their services.”
